Faith Baptist Church’s first meeting was in January of 1967. James Girdley was responsible for organizing those early meetings which met in the gymnasium of what was then the White County High School. Later that year the mission was organized into a church and relocated to the auditorium of West Side City School. Since the auditorium was only available to the church on weekends, the church met in the garage of Jim Tollison for their Wednesday night prayer service. Pastor Girdley resigned his position in July of 1967.
In January of 1968, Jim Tollison was elected as pastor. During that time the church purchased land and constructed a two level building. In September of 1968 the church met in the basement of the new structure, until the main level was built in February of 1969. Pastor Tollison served at Faith Baptist Church until November 25, 1970.
Rick Ford was elected as the third pastor in February of 1971. During his ministry at the church, pews and a pulpit were purchased and the church sponsored a radio program, “Bible on the Air.” In the early 70’s the church added to their existing building and started a Christian school named “Faith Christian School.” This school was moved to another location in 1983 and assumed the name “Volunteer Christian Academy.” Pastor Ford resigned in February of 1975.
